Lucas Martinez

Musician

Lucas Martinez is a guitarist, composer, and instructor based in Pasadena, CA. Originally from New Mexico, his interest in music began at a young age in front of the family piano, discovered the saxophone a few years later, and finally found a place to call home with the guitar at age 16. His study of the guitar began under classical guitarist Carl Bernstein, a student of Andres Segovia, where he developed a strong foundation in classical and finger-style guitar, and became increasingly fascinated with learning and playing jazz. This ultimately brought him to the University of Southern California to pursue a degree in guitar performance.

In May of 2008, Lucas graduated from the esteemed USC Thornton School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Studio Jazz Guitar performance. At USC, he has had the benefit of studying with world-renowned musicians and composers including bebop guitarist Bruce Forman, flamenco guitarist Adam del Monte, and classical guitarist James Smith. His studies and experiences have helped him to develop, and continue to evolve, as a versatile guitarist and composer. Lucas is equally adept and comfortable playing everything from jazz to classical, contemporary to rock/pop, and experimental/modern styles of music.

Lucas currently works as a guitar instructor and a performing musician in the Los Angeles area. Past performances include rock/pop acts at The Viper Room, The Cat Club, The Derby, B.B. King's Blues Club, and The South Park Music Festival.
