Andrea Hodos

Teaching Artist

Andrea Hodos is the director of Moving Torah and the creator of Moving Torah Workshops - a method for interpreting traditional Jewish texts using writing, movement and theater alongside traditional Jewish study methods. In her work, Andrea draws strongly on the techniques of community-based dance developed by the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange.  In 2008 she was invited to the Dance Exchange as an Emerging Choreographer, and her work was presented at the National Building Museum in Washington DC as part of Muscle and Mortar: Animating Architecture at the Capitol Fringe Festival.  Andrea received an M.Ed. in Dance Education from Temple University and a B.A. in English Literature from Yale University. She has been an artist in residence in many settings in Southern CA and nationally, including a year-long residency as artist in residence at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion, Los Angeles.

Andrea is also a certified Pilates instructor, and the owner of Moving Body Pilates.  For the past four years, she has been working with clients who are managing Parkinson’s Disease in their lives.  She is a member of the Pilates for PD Group run through the Parkinson’s Center of Oregon at OHSU, which gives her access to the most current research on Pilates and PD.  August 2010, she participated in the Dance for PD workshop of the Mark Morris Dance Group/Brooklyn Parkinson’s Group.

Andrea is thrilled to be collaborating with Invertigo Dance Theatre on the Dancing Through Parkinson’s initiative in Los Angeles.  She is grateful to be integrating her work as an artist, educator, body worker and community builder in the Parkinson’s community.
