INTERIOR DESIGN

When the going gets tough, the inner clockwork of a young couple calls for a redesign.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Interior Design follows an interracial couple as they move into a new space together. At times hilarious, at other times profound, the storytelling follows the pair as they navigate nosy neighbors, a sea of boxes, a recent miscarriage, and a new place for each other — physically and emotionally.

The choreography of partnering conveys the complexity, challenges, and surprises of love and intimacy. The story of this one couple is highly relatable and universal, the characters are endearing, and their process of embarking on the adventure of moving in together are funny, heartbreaking, and uplifting.

“BY TURNS COMIC, LYRICAL, AND TRAGIC, THE DUO GLIDED SMOOTHLY FROM LIGHTNESS TO PAINFULLY DARK, AND THEN TO A WISER, WARMER PLACE.”

― MARK HEIN, THEATRE GHOST

“THROUGH THE WONDERFUL PERFORMANCES OF JONATHAN BRYANT AND HYOSUN CHOI, KARLIN ARTFULLY TAKES ON BIGOTRY, LOSS AND LOVE.”

― JEFF SLAYTON, BACHTRACK

The vision behind Interior Design: Invertigo strives to tell stories that resonate deeply with a wide array of communities. Interior Design merges contemporary dance with theatrical elements such as dialogue, character arcs, props, sets, and original music to challenge audiences to look at the perceptions behind how we talk about relationships, family, and cohabitation. Within that context, the piece also centers on pregnancy loss — further peeling away the layers of taboo, shame, and secrecy that unjustly mar it.

Originally Performed by Invertigo’s Jonathan Bryant & Hyosun Choi
Show length: 65 minutes.
