Chelsea Sutton

Chelsea Sutton is a writer and director who has worked closely with arts and cultural nonprofits in marketing, development, grant writing, and education for 10+ years. She has worked for Rogue Artists Ensemble, Invertigo Dance Theatre, the Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts at Pepperdine University, The Garry Marshall Theatre (previously the Falcon Theatre), the Victory Theatre Center, YWCA Berkely/Oakland, ELLA (Empowering Leadership in Latina Athletes) Foundation, and California State Polytechnic University Department of Theatre and New Dance. She has taught creative writing at UC Riverside, Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth, and in the Riverside County School District. As the Associate Artistic Director of Rogue Artists Ensemble, she helms the new work incubator, Rogue Lab, a hyper-theatre training ground for writers, directors and designers. As a writer, she is a PEN America Emerging Voices Fellow, Clarion UCSD Science Fiction and Fantasy Workshop alum, a Humanitas PlayLA award winner, and she co-wrote Welcome to the Blumhouse Live, an interactive film event for Blumhouse/Amazon Prime by Little Cinema, which was nominated for a 2021 Emmy for Outstanding Interactive Program. As a director, she specializes in new work development, and was recently a semi-finalist for the Drama League’s Beatrice Terry Fellowship. She holds a BA in Creative Studies from UC Santa Barbara and an MFA in Creative Writing from UC Riverside.
